Earning a European DIY Home-Decor Brand's Window Film Order
Published Last updated FancyFixShare
A large European DIY home-decor brand with its own factory in Germany posted for a window film supplier on Alibaba — a new purchasing agent, no history with us, and a queue of competitors. They wanted thickness, weight, carton and pallet specifications exact at the quotation stage, and EU test standards met. FancyFix answered fast and precisely, compared packaging options with photos, and kept following up for more than a year. FancyFix won the order.
Background
The client is a large European DIY home-decor brand, with its own factory in Germany and only a small portion of its products imported from China. Although we had made contact at a trade show, we had not yet established a working relationship. The opportunity arose when a new purchasing agent at the brand posted a request on Alibaba for a window film supplier.

The client's challenges
- Building trust quickly. With no prior communication with the new purchasing agent, establishing trust in a short time was both an opportunity and a challenge.
- Introducing our products. The client had never purchased similar products, so we needed to quickly familiarize them with the features of our window films.
- Intense competition. Given the brand's strong industry reputation, many competitors were also eager to secure the partnership.
- Detailed parameter requirements. The client required extremely detailed specifications — including thickness, weight, packaging dimensions, outer carton specifications, and pallet quantities and dimensions — provided accurately at the quotation stage.
- High testing standards. The client held us to strict EU testing standards.

Our solutions
- Establishing initial trust. On receiving the inquiry, we promptly sent a company introduction and an overview of our range to give the client a quick sense of our capabilities.
- Effective communication. After finding that the client's spoken English was not strong, we continued communication by email to ensure clarity.
- Anticipating client needs. We tried to understand the motivation behind each question and proactively addressed likely follow-ups.
- Comprehensive solutions. FancyFix gave the client detailed comparisons of packaging options — roll packaging, color boxes, and PET boxes — highlighting the pros and cons of each with photos, and sent samples for the final selection.
- Rapid, accurate information. We provided all product and packaging parameters as quickly and accurately as possible.

What a quotation at this level has to state, line by line
A window film quotation for a European DIY retail programme is written against four values per product line: thickness, face material, roll width and roll length. FancyFix quotes those four from the stock ranges below. Roll weight, carton count and pallet count are quoted per order instead, because the same film changes all three as soon as the retail roll length or the pack format changes.
| Product line | Thickness (with liner / film only / PET liner) | Face material | Max width | Common shipping widths | Common shipping lengths | Installation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Static cling solar control film | 0.20 / 0.16 / 0.04 mm | PVC | 152 cm | 45, 60, 90, 120 cm | 150, 200, 300 cm | Static cling |
| Adhesive solar control film | 0.10 / 0.07 / 0.025 mm | PET | 152 cm | 45, 60, 90, 120 cm | 150, 200, 300 cm | Adhesive |
| Frosted privacy film | 0.23–0.28 / 0.20–0.24 / 0.04–0.045 mm | PVC | 120 cm | 45, 60, 90, 120 cm | 150, 200, 300 cm | Static cling |
| Embossed decorative film | 0.18–0.25 mm (with liner) | PVC face, PET release liner | 120 cm | 45, 60, 90 cm | 150, 200, 300 cm | Static cling |
| Safety and security film | 0.12 / 0.10 / 0.035 mm | PET | 152 cm | 45, 60, 90, 120 cm | 150, 200, 300 cm | Adhesive |
Most FancyFix stock sits inside the ranges in the table above. A buyer who needs a parameter built to their own figure — another thickness, another width, another length, another pack — can have that specified for their own programme instead.
How the EU test file and the two pack builds are put together
An EU test file for a film programme is built component by component, not shipment by shipment. Every packaging component is tested on its own — the backing card, the blister shell and the outer carton each have their own SVHC screening against the ECHA candidate list of 253 substances, not just the film. Paper-based packaging runs through an FSC chain, and that certificate can be issued when a buyer's programme calls for it. FancyFix has already prepared compliance files for the United States, Europe, Australia and Japan.
Retail orders and project orders are packed to two different builds, which is what a packaging comparison at the quotation stage is actually choosing between. A small retail roll is built up as inner paper core, shrink film, label, inner box, outer carton and pallet. A large project roll is built up as a 3-inch core with optional end plugs, then shrink film, label, kraft carton and pallet.
The results
After more than a year of persistent follow-up, we secured the window film order from the client.
